connecting activeIT Solutions GmbH to Private and Public Cloud Solution
With the combined solution of the Netstream Private Cloud (dedicated) and the Netstream Public Cloud (shared), activeIT was able to replace its entire on-prem infrastructure and now benefits from more security and flexibility for itself and its customers.
Challenge
For years, activeIT operated its own on-premises infrastructure to successfully deliver solutions for its end customers. However, with ever-increasing requirements for storage capacity and performance, the company asked itself whether the enormous effort of operating and expanding its own infrastructure was worthwhile. Hardware lifecycle management and the high costs in particular posed a challenge for activeIT. With the goal of also meeting future customer requirements in terms of security, flexibility and scalability, it quickly became clear that expanding the infrastructure itself made little sense from both an economic and an ecological point of view.
Our strategic decision to replace our own data center and migrate to Netstream gave us a clear market advantage in performance, availability and security. The professional and straightforward collaboration with Netstream matters to us, and we value it especially in situations that call for quick action. With Netstream as a strong partner at our side, we can once again focus entirely on our core competencies, and our customers benefit from this too.
Approach
After an open exchange about the various challenges and a needs analysis, various possible solutions were designed together to migrate activeIT’s requirements to the cloud. The choice fell on a tailor-made, dedicated infrastructure (Infrastructure as a Service) whose capacity can be adapted easily and flexibly to business needs – an important criterion in a dynamic environment such as the IT industry. In addition to the dedicated environment, part of the infrastructure was set up in the Netstream Public Cloud environment.
After the successful “proof of concept” of the tailor-made solution, migration to the live platform began shortly afterwards. A migration without interruptions was crucial, as activeIT’s customers involve sensitive data and critical workloads. In response to these needs, the migration could be carried out cost-effectively during operation using the VMware Cloud Director Availability Suite. This allowed the systems to be transferred from the on-prem solution to the Netstream Cloud during live operation (hot migration). Thanks to Netstream’s completely “software-defined” data center, the complex network requirements were implemented in a very short time.
Solution
To cover the different requirements as well as possible, both technically and in terms of licensing, activeIT uses a combined solution of the Netstream Private Cloud (dedicated) and the Netstream Public Cloud (shared). The combination of the two approaches allows a homogeneous environment that is operated and provided by Netstream. Customer sites are integrated via both MPLS and VPN.
