Migration

Move productive workloads securely and predictably

With warm, live or cold migration, you move your systems to the Netstream Cloud.

  • the right migration path

Warm, live or cold migration, depending on the source environment and requirements.

  • during live operation

With warm and live migration, you move your systems without downtime.

  • platform-independent

Cold migration also lets you change the virtualisation platform.

  • tested before switchover

With warm and cold migration, you check the systems in the cloud before you switch over.

  • physical servers too

Physical servers can be virtualised as part of the migration.

  • supported by Netstream

We analyse your existing structure and plan the target environment with you.

Warm and live migration from VMware

The migration runs via the Netstream Workload Availability Service, based on VMware Cloud Director Availability. You install the on-premises appliance via OVA in your VMware environment and connect it to the network. Management and data transport run over the same interface.

Network is preserved (VMware)

Via L2VPN (NSX Autonomous Edge), your local layer 2 network is connected to the network in the Netstream Cloud. This allows VMs to be migrated to the cloud, or back, without network changes.

Requirements:

  • publicly reachable edge
  • trunk port group
  • identical VDC network as a sub-interface

Supported source environments

Live migration is only possible from VMware environments. With cold migration, virtual machines are transferred while switched off. This also makes it possible to change the virtualisation platform, for example from Hyper-V, Proxmox or KVM, and to virtualise physical servers.

Cold migration without additional tools
The switched-off VM is fully replicated, without an export format and without additional tools. In a separate resource pool, you adjust and test network, firewall rules, disks and resources.
Disaster Recovery

Netstream Workload Availability Service ensures the secure replication of your workloads and automated recovery.

To Disaster Recovery

Simple migration

Move your productive workloads to the Netstream Cloud securely and predictably.

Your existing systems are replicated and tested during live operation. As soon as everything is ready, the switchover takes place in a controlled way – without data loss and without production downtime.

Use the Workload Availability Service for planned migrations to the Netstream Cloud.

  1. 1

    Replicate

Your existing systems are replicated during live operation.

  2. 2

    Test

The replicated systems are tested before anything is switched over.

  3. 3

    Switch over

As soon as everything is ready, the switchover takes place in a controlled way, without data loss and without downtime.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I set up the Workload Availability Service for the migration?

You install the on-premises appliance in your VMware environment and connect it to the Netstream Cloud. You then create the protection for your VMs in VMware Cloud Director.

Docs: Setup Docs: Create protection

Do I need to change the network of my VMs for the migration?

No, if you connect your local layer 2 network to the network in the Netstream Cloud via L2VPN (NSX Autonomous Edge). This requires a publicly reachable edge, a trunk port group and the identical VDC network as a sub-interface.

What availability applies?

Unless otherwise agreed, our IT and cloud services have an availability of 99.9 % per calendar year. We report incidents on status.netstream.ch.

What happens to my data when the contract ends?

Your data belongs to you. Back it up or export it before the contract ends. We then delete it within 30 days and confirm the deletion on request.

Docs: Data return and deletion at the end of the contract
Who is responsible for what?

Netstream operates the infrastructure, data center and platform. You are responsible for the configuration, your users and backing up your data.
