The Swiss Federal Government recently presented its three-step plan for the country's electricity supply and also announced the possibility of temporary grid shutdowns. This has naturally led to uncertainty on many sides. At Netstream , we already ensured redundancy in our power supply during the construction of our data centers and developed corresponding emergency plans, so we are well-prepared for all possible scenarios.
What happens during a power outage?
In the event of a power outage, the redundant uninterruptible power supply (ag) in the Netstream Data Center is activated first. This means that high-performance batteries take over the power supply for our servers,ag, and network components for a short period. The batteries bridge the time it takes for the backupaggenerator (UPS) to start up. This typically takes only 20 seconds, but the batteries can operate for up to 20 minutes. After a short time, ouragpower generator is fully operational and can take over the power supply for the entire data center.
Now the ship's engine impresses as a true powerhouse: The diesel-powered generator produces 700 kVA of output. The power generated at full load is not only sufficient to supply the data center itself, but could theoretically also feed energy back into the grid. Should the worst-case scenario of a prolonged power outage occur, contrary to all odds, the fully fueled ship's engine can supply the entire data center for at least twoag. The refueling concept specifies refueling at approximately 50% tank capacity, which is possible continuously during operation.
